Use the smallest width, height and depth in the opening to see whether a model is worth a closer look.
Before you start
Measure at the front and back of the opening. Note any raised hearth, damper, outlet, trim or ledge that reduces the usable space. If you have a model in mind, copy its body dimensions from the current manufacturer drawing rather than the size in a marketplace title.
What the result means
A size match keeps the model on your shortlist; it does not account for a hidden obstruction, trim coverage, wiring or the installation instructions for that model. If the opening tapers, use the smaller measurement and inspect where the body will sit.
