The advertised width is only a starting point. An insert also has a body, a required opening, a visible face and a depth that can change from front to back.
Measure the space you really have
For an existing fireplace, record width and height at both the front and rear, then measure usable depth to the first obstruction. For a media wall, include finished surfaces, the outlet, TV position and access needed after the unit is installed.
What to compare on a product page
- The dimensions of the part that goes into the wall or opening.
- The opening or framing size required for that installation method.
- The face or trim size that will cover the finished edge.
- Power location, heat outlet and access shown for the exact model.
